Portrait of Alex Gilliard

Alex Gilliard is a fifth-generation Floridian and wildlife photographer based in St. Pete, Florida, with a deep love for birds, wild places, and the kind of light that can turn an ordinary moment into something special.

I first picked up a camera in 2006 while trying to launch an online newspaper in my hometown of Wauchula, Florida. What started as a practical need quickly turned into a passion, and over the years I photographed weddings, sports, and local events before eventually finding my way back to what truly hooked me: wildlife photography.

Today, when I am not working as a Senior Software Engineer in K-12 education systems, I spend as much time as I can photographing birds and other wildlife across Florida. Deer, otters, raccoons, and just about anything else can end up in front of my lens if the scene and the light come together the right way.

My goal with this work is simple: to create images that help people feel more connected to nature and inspired to slow down and notice the wildlife around them. I hope these photos make you pause for a moment and see something you might have otherwise missed.
